This year many boards canceled the 12th grade exam due to the lockdown caused by the coronavirus infection. Keeping this in mind, the Joint Admission Board decided the relaxation in the eligibility criteria for admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). According to this decision, deserving students who have passed the class XII examination will also be admitted to IIT. According to the earlier rules, after clearing the JEE Advanced, the candidate was also required to bring a 75% number or top 20 percentile in the 12th for admission.
Despite this, two things will still be compulsory, the first one has to take the 12th examination and the second JEE Advanced will have to be cleared. So it clearly shows that only the 12th score will be exempted. HRD Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal gave this information by tweet on Friday, July 17. Generally, the National Talent Agency conducts the JEE Main Online or Offline examination twice a year, first in January and the other one in May. This is the second examination which is postponed in duo to COVID-19 spread.
What are the conditions for admission to IITs?
Generally, for admission in IITs, JEE Advanced Clear must be compulsory, as well as at least 75 percent of the general candidates in class 12 and marks of SC / ST should be at least 65 percent or in the top 20 percentile rank. Only after meeting these criteria can I get admission to IIT. This year, CBSE, CISCE, and several other boards have partially canceled their 10th and 12th examinations. The board has announced alternative methods of evaluation for the rest of the examinations, which has affected the marks given to students.
